IHG has just opened Hotel Indigo Cagnes-sur-Mer, the brand’s first hotel on the French Riviera. Details are here.

This looks, on the face of it, like a very attractive option for someone who wants to enjoy life on the riviera but is put off by the scale and bustle of Nice and Cannes. With just 87 rooms, the Hotel Indigo is also very much a boutique compared to monoliths such as InterContinental Cannes, albeit this is currently closed for refurbishment.

Cagnes-sur-Mer sits between Cannes and Nice, and its attractions include a castle and a Renoir museum. It has a train station (marked as 1km from the hotel) which makes it easy to pop along to Nice, Cannes, Antibes or Monaco.

Hotel Indigo Cagnes sur Mer

To quote:

“As guests enter Hotel Indigo Cagnes-sur-Mer, they will be met with an array of light turquoise hues that contrast with rich darker blues to reflect the unique shades of the sea and the endless skies which the Riviera is known for. The soft furnishings throughout the hotel’s public areas continue to evoke a nautical feel, with decorative rugs that feature waved patterns, the use of soft curved edges, and light fittings which mimic the waves that lap up against the coastline.

Nodding to the destination’s link to notable French artists, the artwork that can be seen throughout the hotel has been specially curated, partnering with local talent. Thanks to a partnership with Eric Garence, the Cote d’Azur ambassador and poster designer, guests can send home a one-of-a-kind postcard to family and friends.”

Facilities include a rooftop pool and an Italian restaurant specialising in locally caught seafood. The hotel website says that a free airport shuttle service is available if you pre-book.

Rates seem reasonable, with random dates next May starting at around €150, albeit that rooms are relatively small. The hotel is a new build and so should be in excellent condition.

The new Indigo has some decent rates in March and some very high ones in October! 124/324 euros 40k/70k points.

The one and only time I’ve stayed at that Thistle hotel was because of the promise of using the PODS the next morning. It was so disappointing when I found out that the PODS closed for maintenance. The Thistle Heathrow has definitely seen better days.

  • Clare says:

We’ll still use the Thistle parking option.

We used the Pods last Monday. We were the only users. It all sounded a bit clunkier than usual and the first Pod we got in told us to get out again as going out of service!
We were going to the Thistle to make use of their excellent (book direct) stay and park deal – nearly half the cost of POD parking for 8 days. Taking the PODs out of the equation, i still think the Thistle will be worth it for us as we don’t live near the airport.
Can you actually walk instead of waiting fir the new on demand bus?

  • Tim says:

Theres also horse racing track in Cagnes-sur-Mer for anyone whos interested.

  • LostAntipod says:

POD Parking – my go-to choice of parking at T5 because I can’t be arsed waiting around for a bus especially in poor weather. Used it last weekend , it was quite full. Backward move by Heathrow to suspend it.

    • Lady London says:

      “On demand bus service”
I’d imagine delays and repeated sudden “exceptional” unavailabiliy.
As in “this month ecceptionally/due to unscheduled maintanance/temporary staff shortage” we’re only able to er…actually provide a bus… when there’s an ‘r’ in the month and only on a Tuesday between 5.00pm and 5.01pm” 🙂

      • Nick says:

Read Rob’s article again. The bus service only runs on-demand overnight. How many people actually want to do the journey at 3am? During core hours it will run a standard regular service.

        • Tariq says:

Arrived back yesterday and PODs already out of action. Signage during the daytime stayed to call 0208 745 6261 for pickup. Bus leaves from stand 28 on T5 bus concourse level 0. Appears to be the T5 Business Parking bus repurposed.

          • Tariq says:

Needless to say, after some argument with the front office manager at the Thistle, managed to get the return leg of the POD trip charge refunded…

  • Chris says:

So zero emission pods replaced by diesel buses?
    Genius Heathrow.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Zero tailpipe. Unless pod is advertised as powered by 100% renewable sources.

Are the buses now EV or biofuel ?

      • Phillip says:

Heathrow claims to be using 100% renewable energy “in” all terminals. Unclear what happens/constitutes outside!

  • M Bradshaw says:

Used POD 29th Oct/11th Nov was fantastic and hope to use it again in March 2022…won’t be using shuttle buses if that still applies though…

  • D7 says:

Booked on 16th for use on 18th even though they would surely have known then that they would be closing it. A knee jerk decision like that wouldn’t have been made.

They’re refusing to give even partial refunds for this premium service, even though they’re failing to deliver the promised service.
