Good American Express cashback deal with PayPal launched

American Express has launched a new cashback deal with PayPal which is worth a look.

This is an offer which triggers when you pay for anything, on any website (in theory £ payments only), via PayPal.

With the offer available across supplementary cards too, the sums add up. Looking at my wife and I, we have a potential of £275 cashback available which we have almost four months to trigger:

Good American Express cashback deal with PayPal launched
  • My Platinum: Spend £70, get £15 back (valid three times)
  • My wife’s supplementary Platinum: Spend £70, get £15 back (valid three times)
  • My wife’s Gold: Spend £100, get £20 back (valid once)
  • My Business Platinum: Spend £300, get £60 back (valid once)
  • My wife’s supplementary Business Gold: Spend £300, get £60 back (valid once)
  • My wife’s British Airways Premium Plus: Spend £70, get £15 back (valid three times)

I don’t have the offer on my British Airways Premium Plus Amex or my Marriott Bonvoy Amex card.

All PayPal offers end on 31st October. I can see that I will need to start a spreadsheet to keep track of them all ….

PayPal sells gift cards

Not a lot of people know that PayPal sells gift cards for various retailers – see here.

I would imagine that these do trigger the cashback, but don’t trust me. If you have Netflix, you could buy a Netflix gift card and credit it to your account – your monthly direct debit is automatically suspended until the value of the gift card is used up. I would image that Spotify gift cards work in the same way.

Uber is also there for anyone who use either the ride service or Uber Eats regularly, as are Just Eat cards.

Airbnb gift cards are also available.

Other deals

Some people have reported a new Selfridges offer, but none of my family cards have it. It is for £50 cashback on a £250 spend.

PS. I also have a deal on my Business Platinum and my wife’s supplementary Business Gold for £80 cashback on £400 of Facebook or Instagram advertising spend. This will be easy money for many HfP readers with their own businesses.

  • John says:

    No offers here 🙁

    • Charles Martel says:

No worthwhile offers for the cheapskates like me that have retreated back to ARCC.

  • roger says:

No PayPal offer on my platinum charge card.

    • The real Swiss Tony says:

It was limited to the first 50,000 applicants (which presumably means cards) so if you have many folk like Rob out there picking this up more than half a dozen times and as noted it’s on other websites now too, the offer may well have been filled. It is after all close to free money, given the number of retailers – incl BA – who will let you pay via paypal anyway. But important to remember that you lose the credit card protections at that point and instead use PayPal’s version.

      • Thywillbedone says:

Not so sure. I just added it to my wife’s platinum card this very second. Wasn’t on my BAPP.

    • roger says:

Well it’s the way offers are targeted.
I don’t seem to get easy and common offers from Amex.

      • roger says:

Well it finally shows up this morning £20 off £100 spend one off.

  • Rob H not Rob says:

PayPal on BA premium (x1) and ARC (x3). GTFI.

    Is it cumulative spend?

  • Sam Wardill says:

I got the offer on my blue and my wife’s gold. I will use with Ocado as the loss of section 75 protection is not a problem

  • Lev441 says:

It’s also on the accelerating business card – £60 back for £300 spend

  • RCHammer says:

It’s on my Platinum and the supplementary card so it doesn’t appear to be fully subscribed yet

    • WaynedP says:

      +1

20 back on 100 spend Saved to my Amex Plat supp card at 10:50

Not appearing on my BA Premium + card, nor MBonvoy, and no sign of 3×15 back on 3×70 spend on any of our cards.

  • AndyS says:

Just found it on my platinum card, spend 100 get 20 back.
Can someone clarify if this has to be a single transaction or does it accumulate ?

  • Dirtyneedlebluesky says:

    Thanks Rob / HfP

On my platinum card but only a one time use of spend £100 get £20 back.
