Royal Jordanian launches Manchester and Stansted flights to Amman

Royal Jordanian Airlines has announced it is launching flights between Amman, Manchester and Stansted next year “as part of the airline’s strategic plans to …. focus on incoming tourism”.

These will be redeemable for Avios.

In the past 12 months, the airline has been growing its European footprint and has already launched Lyon, Milan, Stockholm, Düsseldorf and Brussels. Manchester and Stansted will be its second and third UK destinations after Heathrow and the airline is in the midst of a five-year plan to grow its fleet from 24 to 40 aircraft.

Royal Jordanian launches Stansted & Manchester flights

Flights launch in early March and are operated by an A320-family aircraft with Royal Jordanian’s short-haul business class product, which we last reviewed in 2018.

Business Class has wide, comfy 2×2 seating as you would see in the United States. It isn’t the ‘blocked middle seat’ model used by British Airways, Lufthansa etc. The premium over Economy, especially if using Avios, is probably worth it.

Manchester

Flights to Manchester launch on 6th March and will operate three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays:

  • RJ116 departs Manchester at 14:00 and arrives in Amman at 22:05
  • RJ115 departs Amman at 10:30 and arrives in Manchester at 13:15

London Stansted

Flights to London Stansted launch on 3rd March and will operate three times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays:

  • RJ114 departs Stansted at 14:00 and arrives in Amman at 21:55
  • RJ113 departs Amman at 10:15 and arrives in Stansted at 12:40

Flight times for both routes are just over five hours.

As Royal Jordanian is a member of the oneworld alliance you will be able to earn Avios and tier points as well as redeem Avios for flights.

PS. Royal Jordanian is currently offering a status match to the equivalent of British Airways Silver. If you have status with any other major airline you probably qualify to get yourself access to BA lounges, free seat selection etc for a year.

  • Gordon says:

I guess the Hyatt promotion is targeted!

    • BSI1978 says:

You could be right, although for once I’m not going to grumble too much if this doesn’t appear. Markedly ‘poorer’ than previous offers as Rob states.

Hyatt offers do have a tendency of dropping onto the cards over a period of days however.

    • Rob says:

      60,000 registrations allowed so unlikely.

  • Matt says:

Strange explanation for Royal Jordanian’s expansion of UK flights. The timing suggests that it’s more related to Jordanian passport holders being able to enter the UK without a visa under the ETA scheme.

    • NicktheGreek says:

Wanting to boost tourism is strange? Looks like they’ve got a spare plane they’re throwing at the UK.

The point on ETAs is surely a coincidence, the majority of new countries coming online in 2024 already fly to Manchester so there must be something there for them…

    • memesweeper says:

Jordan is a fantastic place to visit and has a growing reputation as an accessible safe and interesting destination. RJ offers few useful onward connections for Brits so why not focus on tourism?

    • F says:

It’s exactly this Matt all of Jordan is coming to the uk.

Source: I am Palestinian with a Jordanian citizenship.

      • Matt says:

This is my understanding from Jordanian friends in the UK – lots more Jordanians are planning to visit when ETA comes into play, especially given the current weak GBP/USD exchange rate, and the Jordanian economy doing very well thanks to Saudi investment.

Jordan is a great place to visit, but a lot of other carriers have had direct flights from Amman from the UK and subsequently dropped them.

        • lumma says:

I did Jordan on Ryanair a few years back, via Lithuania on the way and Malta on the way back. I think the cost of the 4 flights came to about £120. Great bargain 3 country trip.

  • CheapCharlie says:

Would be nice to see our European carriers adopting similar seating in short & medium haul biz.
I mean an uncomfortable economy seat with another uncomfortable economy seat empty next you is hardly a premium product. Especially on flights to the likes of Egypt & Jordan some 5 hours away !!
My back just can’t take BA’s economy seating for that long regardless of whether it’s in the economy section or the Club section !

    • zapato1060 says:

Never understood how you can call a seat business class with just an empty seat in the middle. Bar food and lounge I’ve been on countless Wizz, Ryanair flights with an empty seat next to me and never thought “ohhh I’m in J”.

      • lumma says:

It’s priced accordingly to be fair, check out how much Turkish business costs on London to Istanbul Vs Club Europe, you generally don’t get much change out of £1000. (although, I’d prefer Turkish economy on the 777 over Club Europe).

    • SBIre says:

IIRC, I believe Thai are being sued for trying to sell the blocked middle economy seat as business!

      • zapato1060 says:

        hahahaha @SBlre

        • Rob says:

It’s not that. It is unusual in the region not to have RJ-style ‘big seats’ in business. Thai is being sued for using a standard short haul aircraft and exposing its business class passengers to the indignity that BA ones suffer every day.

  • zapato1060 says:

As for these hotel offers. They are very frustrating. Puerto Rico, Florida, Israel, Maldives, UAE, Hungary and I still could not use these offers. Quite un-global.

    • Jayne says:

Yes. I got scuppered with the IHG offer for Hungary and Malta. From the outset it should really have said ‘at hotels in the U.K., France, Spain, Netherlands, Germany and Austria’ – because those are the only countries included. I did have a quick glance at the list and saw European countries, but equally a bit misleading to say ‘spend £300 at IHG and get £70 back’ and then only include six countries…

  • Matarredonda says:

Love Jordan but had flights by both EJ and Ryanair cancelled this winter due to the ongoing situation in Gaza.

    • 1A or no way says:

I’m still waiting for a refund for a flight cancelled in November. Slow customer service.

  • Marcin says:

Any more words on how many Avios you need to redeem on Royal Jordanian? Is it a 80 TP business class route?

  • Dev says:

Do RJ still have non Avios/non TP warning J fares?

  • Jordan D says:

The timings on the STN-AMM route are better than the later arrival of the flight from LHR, so good optionality out of London on the days it operates. Of course, LHR can be a B787, but also could be an A320, so some jeopardy in options.

When the situation allows, direct flights down to Aqaba from the UK would be nice. Some lovely properties there on the Red Sea.
