IHG has ‘buy it now’ Champions League Final packages – for 1.3m points!

Here is a genuine ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to use your points for a package to the UEFA Champions League.

The first snag is that the three packages on offer must be sold before we know who is in the final.

The second snag is that you’ll need 1.3 million IHG One Rewards points. At our valuation of 0.4p per point, this is £5,500-worth. It’s worth noting that Mastercard was selling these packages on its own website for €6,000 but that allocation has now gone.

      Yes, we definitely shouldn’t let sponsors release any of their tickets to the great unwashed. They should all be kept for people like me as freebies.

        Pretty much died for me when Sky started taking over tv rights.
        All became about money then.

        1.3m points would probably bring a tear of joy to BA’s eyes. Rewarding those who have no issues affording it in the first place, or have a company paying.
        That amount of points definitely isn’t an amount the average Joe would have.

        Anyway, no interest me, but fair play to anyone who does drop points for that.

    This is a great opportunity for a ihg points multi millionaire. In my opinion, sports are becoming too expensive for ppl. If a person did everything that the package is including by booking individually then everything else would work out cheaper except the football tickets. The tour, hotel and meal wouldn’t be worth much as it’s 4* hotel. You are really paying for the good seats in the stadium. It might be worth it to some fans. I like football and I am a fan, but I am the type of fan; happy to catch a game on tv. I have never cared to actually turn up at a stadium as the only time I did go, I didn’t like the experience. Having said that, I do understand how much a true fan would want to go because I am a true tennis fan and would definitely pay a lot to watch Rafa vs joker or fedex play again.

      I believe lower league and non-league football is available for those who miss the purity of the old days.

      However few people seem to choose to watch such football because they prefer to watch the big names attracted to the UK by the TV and corporate money.

        Football is only worth watching if you go. And watch from the terraces not from the posh seats. I can afford the latter, have been ‘hosted’ many times, but always choose to go with the real fans – those who chant and seek to torment the opposition, and who, very occasionally, get hauled out of the stadium by the stewards / police. I avoid the fights afterwards though – preferring to drown a few pints to celebrate another heroic loss.

        Championship is 2nd best attended league in Europe, even in tiers 5 or 6 5000 crowds aren’t unusual.

        The EFL is actually in pretty rude health of late.

        Over 21.7 million supporters passed through the turnstiles of an EFL competition in 2022-23, with the highest cumulative attendances recorded for league matches since 1953-54.

        The Championship the fifth best attended division in Europe behind only the Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga and Serie A.

        15% rise in season ticket sales from 2020-21 has contributed to the growth in attendances and represents the highest number of season tickets sold from any EFL season in the 21st century. Junior season ticket sales have also continued to rise.

        To quote the EFL CEO

        “To welcome nearly 22 million supporters to an EFL competition in 2022/23 is quite remarkable. These numbers don’t happen by accident. They are testament to the efforts of the 72 Clubs to create such quality football and matchday experiences that encourages fans to attend matches in person even when there are so many other ways to consume football, and particularly when so many people are facing a squeeze on their finances.
