This is tempting having cancelled my Plat in Jan, I just received a 25k retention offer on my Gold too…
My Amex gold is up for renewal in 2 weeks, how did you get the retention offer, I did customer care chat and wasn’t offered anything? Thanks a lot
The system determines it. You either get it or you don’t.
Thanks so much for this link. To anyone getting ‘unconfigured card’ message, make your MR earning card the preferred card, so it appears first, click the link again & it should work.
Has anyone noticed that in the T+Cs on the update page the card fee is listed as £575?

Might be worth contesting if you end up being charged £650?

Blimey, that really is scraping the barrel!
The £650 annual fee is made abundantly clear several times and organisations are allowed to make mistakes in the same way as humans. The idea of trying to catch out Amex on this is unfortunately rather symptomatic of where the Platinum clientele is coming from which does not bode well for Amex’s prospects.

I won’t be contesting anything – it looks to me like an innocent cock-up and everyone knows the fee is now £650. If for any reason I only get charged £575 then that’s a Brucie Bonus, but I very much doubt that will happen!

In this particular case there is a discrepancy, the fee is not clearly stated, it could be £575 or £650. I don’t see the problem with asking the question. Really don’t understand the assumptions you are making or why you are even going there with your comment on Platinum clientele, actually I’d rather not know.
@scholar wong – it’s just not serious, there is no discrepancy. The £650 annual fee is on the landing page for the offer and is at 2.3 of the terms, which is the only mention of the annual fee in 24 pages that I just checked. That fee increased from £575 to £650 just over a year ago and anyone vaguely credit card savvy would know that. Maybe you have raked up some old terms, but advising someone else to challenge the fee on that basis?? Anyone short of £75 and so long on time as to make vexatious complaints doesn’t sound like an ideal cardholder.
What makes it worse of course is that you know perfectly well what the correct fee is, but you are still suggesting trying it on with Amex!

By definition there is a discrepancy, there are 2 different facts. This is a targeted offer, I don’t know what the intended correct fee is, it is either 650 or 575, the T+Cs I am agreeing to on the page states 575, the other links state 650. Each to their own, but I would be asking the question, not suggesting taking it any further than that.
Just upgraded my OH Gold.
I haven’t had Platinum in a long while. I know I need to request all the status one by one. But does the Priority Pass comes without asking?Just upgraded my OH Gold.

Sometimes it’s best to give up. If anyone gets charged £650 there’s no point even wasting your breath asking why it isn’t £575 because the offer landing page is extremely clear on what the fee is and the T&C’s are just one very small error.

I haven’t had Platinum in a long while. I know I need to request all the status one by one. But does the Priority Pass comes without asking?Just applied for the Platinum. Within an hour or so, got the email from PP. That was before confirmation emails from Amex and I’m not expecting the card/account number for a few more days!
Anyone know if you can upgrade from business Gold to business Platinum? Wondered if this offer was a crossover, or just applied to gold upgrade to plat only? Thanks.
Tried to upgrade today and it says my card is not eligible. Still getting advertised the card/upgrade in app and on the web tho. Customer service didnt help, just said they dont know why im not eligible. Must be considered dodgy I guess.
I upgraded and the dining offers were added after a couple of days but I had to use chat to get the HN offer added – took about 5 mins and will hopefully be added in 24 hrs
I’ve had the upgrade bonus previously but that was 5+ years ago and it was Gold Charge – Plat Charge. Hoping that doesn’t disqualify me from a bonus. I suspect not but any thoughts?
I have the Platinum charge card and the Preferred Rewards Gold credit card. If I upgrade the Gold credit to Platinum credit, would I be eligible for the 80,000 bonus? Just followed the link and it allows me to proceed with the upgrade, but want to make sure I’d receive the points..

You are allowed BOTH Plat Charge and Plat Credit so on that basis I assume you’d be OK.

Was the message ‘not configured card’ or “not eligible”, if the former try the fix suggested by ShinyChansey – make your MR earning card the preferred card, so it appears first when you open the Amex app. Try again after the change and it should work.

It was a message saying sorry you dont have a card eligible. I did try that fix out of interest and got same message.
I assume the algorithm gods at amex have decided my profile doesnt fit. It is what it is. Ill try again maybe next week. if not no big loss.
