Apologies if this has been asked before…but does anyone know if foreign spend is included towards the £10k spend?

Yes, foreign spend is included but not the FX fee itself and I’m sure you know the £650 card fee also doesn’t count towards your £10k.

I’ve successfully upgraded my ARCC to The Platinum Card and it’s been showing as Platinum in my online account since yesterday. According to the offer my card number will remain the same and I can continue using my existing card until I receive the new one, but does that mean spend from now (using the ARCC while I wait for the replacement Platinum) will count toward the upgrade bonus? Thanks

I upgraded and have got my 80k bonus points after two months of heavy spending… now to work out if I keep it and use all the other benefits for the next 6 months or so

Annoyingly upgraded before this offer went live and I have just spent £6k (for 40k points in 3(?) months was the offer) and I did not realise but I have a £50 refund incoming that will take me just below £6k and the qualifying period has finished today or tomorrow (I’ve already put some spend through to take me back over £6k but fear it might be too late).

Do people think AMEX will claw back the points?

So when this 80k offer came up, I thought I must about just be due out of my fallow period. A quick chat with Amex confirmed yes! And also I could get a referral from player 2 and get a whopping 100,000 MR’s!

Today I went on the chat to check on my progress towards the 10k spend and they dropped the bombshell. It had only been 23 months since my last MR earning card, the previous agent was wrong, and I won’t be eligible for any SUB. Cue anger, frustration, resignation etc, mostly at myself. Why didn’t I keep better records? What a crap start to 2025, and now the fallow period has to start again. Not before I nab the Harvey Nicks and dining credits though…

I have raised a complaint about the incorrect advice received, but am not expecting anywhere near the £5k value I would have gotten from the MR’s. Stoopid, stoopid…

Oh, and to top things off I’ve just had a fraudulent transaction on my Curve card, so need to sort that out. Grrrr

A quick update on my above tale of woe.

Just under three weeks after they acknowledged my complaint, Amex have today replied with a ‘partially upheld’ response. More to the point, I’m getting 80k points (so not the full 100k it would have been with the friend referral). Happy to accept that given the circumstances.

Thanks to @JDB for the words of wisdom that helped formulate my letter.

@phantomchickenz – you are very welcome and I’m delighted you got an excellent outcome. You must have written a suitably polite blinder of a letter.

I may have leant on heartstrings a little with the phrase “at that point my heart sank” 😉

Quite interesting reading the language of the reply too – clearly designed for any appeal to FOS. We have a legal case going on at work at the moment so I am very swiftly being brought up to speed on how important language can be!

100K for new Plat cardholders same spend if referred by a current Plat holder. This looks decent for upgraders.

P2 has a Preferred Rewards Gold Card (which was obtained just under 12 months ago, by downgrading from Platinum), so I am assuming this upgrade offer should be available to them. When I click on the “Upgrade” link, the message says no eligible cards found on the account.
On the same page, there is a link to upgrade a Gold Charge Card (which P2 doesn’t have). The offer is much worse 20k for £6k spend. Surprisingly though clicking on Upgrade confirms eligibility (“Confirm your Upgrade from The Preferred Rewards Gold Card®”).

That doesn’t sound right does it?

My wife has just done a successful new platinum sign up with referral from a friend and got 100K. I’m currently ticking down the 2 year clock hence her applying not me.

We plan to transfer the Amex points out to Bonvoy once they’re triggered along with any others earned from spend.

assuming she has 150K Amex points, they’d go to her new Bonvoy at 2:3 giving her 225K Bonvoy points. I have Bonvoy Titanium and a good balance of points but need more for a Maldives trip later this year, it makes sense to book with my status but we can only transfer 100K from her Bonvoy to mine which would leave 125K stranded in her account.

If she only transfers 66,666 Amex that then gives her 99,999 Bonvoy that can come straight to me, how do I get the remaining 83K Amex points to my Bonvoy account, is there a route via other transfers?

Hope that makes sense and someone can help
    Thanks

Any data point re: those who tried to upgrade again after upgrading in the past?

Any joy in getting the bonus?

I’m inclined to say if you’ve been targeted for the offer even though you previously had an upgrade bonus on that account, you are likely to receive the bonus again. Otherwise, why would you be targeted? Besides it’s in their interests to get you to upgrade to a card with a higher fee.

Of course hard to say if this is the case for certain without any data points.
