As a data point I did try again this morning (from a popup asking me to upgrade when I logged in via web). Clicked the link and still takes me to the we’re sorry you do not have a card eligible page. As I said before, assume its an algorithm or something in my profile they dont like.
For the sake of clarity as I know people like to hide what they have done sometimes:
– salary is more than enough
– had gold 3 years now
– spend around 15-20k in a year there or thereabouts.
– paid off in full alwaysWas thinking Id get my partner to apply instead, but the big spend we were planning on doing (the reason why we considered upgrading) is due end of week so not sure if card will come in time. Ah well, maybe next time.
This offer also appeared on my Gold Credit Card. I only downgraded back in September from Platinum to Gold, so im a bit weary if I actually qualify.
Any confirmation whether this legit would work for people who just recently downgraded and received the bonus beginning of the year for upgrading?
Thanks

It wouldn’t.
I’ve just had a targeted email for this from the free Rewards Credit Card.
I’ve upgraded to Platinum before, but surely they shouldn’t be pushing these promos to ineligible card holders?
Does the £10k spend target show in the app/on the website when you upgrade?
So I tried to do this upgrade and got a message “we can’t process it now, try again later”. When I called Amex CS, they said the offer is not showing in my account, and so therefore I am not targeted for it. Their hypothesis is that I have close to zero transactions on my gold card (all the spend is going on my hubby’s premium plus card at the moment). They advised to increase spend on card and try in a few weeks. Is this correct? Anyone have any advise on this?

If you have multiple Amex cards, if Gold set as your ‘preferred’ card (with a star next to it) when you log in? If not, it won’t work.
Are you on the correct upgrade page? Charge if you have Gold charge, credit if you have Gold credit?
… advice not advise 🙂
Just to be clear, I found the link to upgrade on Google, wasn’t targeted. Changed default card to gold (thank you!), and the upgrade went through. The agents can’t confirm though if I will get the offer – asked me to submit evidence of the offer and they will review – told me to make some spend on my card as they can’t see offers otherwise.
Hope this works??
Apologies if this has been asked before, I couldn’t find an answer.
I downgraded my Platinum Charge card to Gold Charge back in April and I have now upgraded back to Platinum using the 80k offer.
I have also used my Platinum dining credit early this year before I downgraded. So now I’m wondering, if I’ll receive new dining credit for 2024 which I can use this month?
Thanks for your help!
Tricky, especially as up/downgrades mean you keep the same card number. I’d be leaning towards no but at the same time I’d give it a go – by which I mean if you’re going out for a meal and there’s an option to use a participating Amex restaurant you might as well go for it.

Thanks Rob! Was afraid this would be the case as, like you said, the card number hasn’t changed. Will give it a go with low expectations and report back. 😀

I’m in the same boat… I used my card abroad this weekend, and the payment hasn’t hit yet so can’t see if the dining credit has triggered. I downgraded to Gold in May and can’t recall if I used my abroad £150 in 2024…. I’m sure I would have used the local one in London.
Anyone done this and the credit has worked?
I’d prob challenge it anyway as it’s a new card application so should be new benefits. My £50 Harvey Nicks worked – but maybe because I didn’t use the H2 benefit….
I did the exact same and credit didn’t track. Amex said its once per benefits period do the fact I had got the card again doesn’t reset the credit. Very annoying.

Why is it “annoying”? Why would you expect to be treated better than a regular Platinum cardholder because you have flitted in and out and evaded some fee? Would it not be most unfair on them and wouldn’t they be the ones being entitled to be annoyed?
You did ask last week about this and were referred to the terms which, had you read them, would have avoided you getting annoyed.
Oddly, having done 90k of referrals on my wife’s Gold, the limit seems to have reset to zero now the card is upgraded to Platinum.
In worse news, no sign of Harvey Nichols to register for yet, 10 days on. Got the dining ones after 5-6 days.

Similarly it’s worth cancelling a Supp card before upgrading then adding it back afterwards.
Can anyone confirm about local dining credit if you had platinum earlier this year, used it, downgraded and then upgraded again? Anyone’s gone through?
Not a problem if not as going out anyway – just wondered 🙂
Hey guys, I have a question regarding the platinum card because I’ve recently upgraded to it solely for the 80,000 point upgrade bonus. If I wish to downgrade at any point after hitting the £10k spend, would it be possible to go back to the gold card/normal rewards card? I anticipate to hit it in a month or two and would have had the card for 2-3 months. Furthermore, if I spend the dining credit/ HN credits- would I still be entitled a pro rata refund “of the Platinum card” for the remaining membership months? Or will that be deducted from me? Because in essence I would be spending £150 local dining+ £100 local dining (next year) and £50+£50 HN credit, and then exiting.

Is there a spend tracker for the £10k showing online?
I think I can make the platinum card work for me this time round with current outsize sub, planned spend etc.
Any advice on best referral route and likely acceptance for this please? Specifically, I’ve got a BAPP with £20k+ credit limit (previous car purchases etc) and other non Amex with £5k limit. Balances are consistently paid off on time each month. Is this a barrier for a platinum card? I’d only want a c.£5k limit on it.
Secondly, is there an optimal referral route to maximise bonus? OH is a supp on my BAPP and neither of us hold any other Amex card.

I would love to give you a referral (which would net you 100K MR reward points) but the accepted etiquette here is that one of the HfP team will message you with a link which will benefit them directly as a thank you for running the site.

I was told via chat that a tracker should appear online (but not in the Amex app) once I start spending, but I do not see it.
I upgraded from Gold credit but currently hold a Platinum Charge, and have upgraded this from Gold Charge before, so not certain whether I will qualify for the Platinum Credit upgrade bonus.
Here’s another weird one after upgrading my wife’s Gold Charge to Plat Charge.
The Deliveroo benefit is still there. It was saved to ‘Offers’ before I upgraded and wasn’t removed. We did an order midweek, well after the upgrade was done, and the £5 still turned up.

Did the card number change? Maybe it’s like the online BA/BAPP upgrade/downgrade where it stays the same and offers are maintained.

HfP etiquette understood and accepted.
I just got the platinum card but I am wondering how you get the hotel status. Do I just join the hotel scheme and is there an option to link the card. I want to book a Meliá hotel but want to make sure it is linked before I am not not clear how to do this? On the plus side the dining credit option has appeared but not the Harvey Nichols one so hoping that is soon…
