-
More or less expecting this (based on last year experience) and currently still working on 1 out of 2 (card) upgrades from the 40k MR points upgrade.
Though I don’t think I would be able to hit £10k as already done most big expenses. Oh well! Best of luck to those who able to manage this.

Looks amazing but I clicked through the link above and recevied the error message below, would this mean I am not eligible (I downgraded from Plat to Gold around 10 months ago)?

Mrs Aston has the free ARCC.
Has never upgraded an Amex card before.
I presume she qualifies for 80k.Mrs Aston has the free ARCC.

This is my only concern. Being able to spend £10k in the next 6 months.
I very recently checked my outgoings and was surprised by how little (comparatively) I spend through Amex.Hmm, I see supplementary cards are auto converted.
So there goes the opportunity to get another 5k MR.Amex chat couldn’t confirm if the ‘never before’ means ‘never before for upgrade to Platinum’ or ‘never before any upgrade for any card ever’. The latter is clearly more problematic where Amex relationship goes back years like mine. They’re looking into my specific case – but they’re suggesting it will take 5+ days to get back to me. 80,000 is so fundamental to the decision do I need certainty.

Was it the overseas bunch?
If so, I’d be cautious of anything they say.Amex chat couldn’t confirm if the ‘never before’ means ‘never before for upgrade to Platinum’ or ‘never before any upgrade for any card ever’. If so, I’d be cautious of anything they say.Hard to tell. I can’t recall an upgrade bonus but who knows. Maybe 10 years ago – anything’s possible and my memory’s not what it was. I know what people say but if they confirm I haven’t in writing (having checked) I’d assume I can rely on that.
This is interesting.
For the first time, people with Gold CHARGE (like my wife) qualify, not just Gold Credit cardholders.
Very tempted, especially as I’ve still got 7 weeks to do the UK dining credit and HNicks.

I also have the same message. Strange message, I phoned and they said to try another browser (agent in manila) which has obviously not worked.
Struggling to understand why i am not eligible as I have never upgrade any Amex before.
The only thing I can think of is that this particular I have only had 6 months as it was replaced due to Fraud – could this be the reason?
@danstravel I did experience similar issue a few month ago while trying to upgrade with the previous offer. Try again tomorrow or in a few day. It did work for me in the end and both upgrades were confirmed tracked by Amex CS. One of them was already successful with 40k MR and £400 Amex travel credit (the latter was a pleasant surprise as I upgraded a few days after the offer expiry date).
Just read the T&C again it seems this time it may just be for charge card. You can always try though. 😀

There are 2 pages – one for the credit and one for the charge card so i think it should be open to everyone.
Will give it another day or so see if the error message is still there. Keen to do it only through this webpage given the spending requirement – I’d want to be sure im getting the points.
@danstravel you can also check with the Amex CS that it is tracked once your card is up and running and screenshot the chat. Also don’t put the big amount too quickly when waiting for your Plat card to arrive as I did that mistake putting nearly £4k on flight ticket and it was not counted as the system still recognised my old card. I was advised by CS to let at least 48 hrs for the system to be updated.

I was having the same issue and CS couldn’t help. I had a thought that it might be trying to upgrade the wrong card. I had a cancelled BA Premium Plus card sitting at the “top” of my card list when I logged in. I removed it from online services through account management, so my Gold was then at the top, then the upgrade link worked.
Are you still eligible if you have recently downgraded from plat to gold? Currently waiting for Amex to call me back with the answer but though to check here if someone already asked / knew the answer.
This is tempting having cancelled my Plat in Jan, I just received a 25k retention offer on my Gold too…

Amex agent called back to say checked with marketing and eligible even if you’ve downgraded but never upgraded.
Have this on my Business gold card… Anyone know if the saved offers transfer over to the new card? I’d hate to miss out on them and would help me hit my new spending target.

Thanks, aligns with the T+Cs.
This is so tempting especially with the dining and HN credits just before calendar year end.

Thank you! This was exactly the reason – option now available after following your advice. Amazing how a friendly poster on HfP can actually be MORE useful than folk that work for Amex 🙂
Very tempting offer – the only gotcha is 10k on Amex card in the next 6 months – even though I have a major house refurbishment lined up – I was hoping to use a long interest free purchase card 🤔
