I wanted to remind you that the attractive Qatar Airways business class deals to Asia that we’ve seen in recent weeks are still running until the end of April.
You will need to go to Scandinavia to start your trip which is admittedly a pain. On the upside, you will be getting a good price and, perhaps more importantly, earning 560 British Airways tier points.
The best deals are:
Stockholm to Bangkok – SEK 15,700 (£1,300) return
Stockholm to Hong Kong – SEK 15,460 (£1,260) return
Oslo to Singapore – NOK 14,700 (£1,330) return
There is very good availability for these fares. In general:
they are available for much of 2019 and early 2020, except for Christmas week, as long as you fly out on Mon-Thu
you would earn 560 British Airways tier points due to the change of plane in Doha (140 points x 4 flights)
With multiple daily flights on each route, you can pick from various seating options:
A350-900 – the herringbone seat which I reviewed here, albeit in its 787 incarnation, which is very impressive. Qatar has a special website showing off this seat which you’ll find here. Some A350-900 aircraft also have Qsuite.
The Boeing 787-9 and A350-900 seat is very close to the same seat as you will get with the new British Airways Club Suite, albeit without the door.
If you don’t have a credit card with 0% foreign exchange fees, your best option for paying is American Express Preferred Rewards Gold which offers triple points – 3 per £1 – when you book flight tickets in a foreign currency. This is because the transaction triggers the ‘double points for airline spend’ and the ‘double points for foreign spend’ bonuses.
The Qatar Airways booking site is here. You need to book by 30th April.
How to earn Avios from UK credit cards (September 2022)
As a reminder, there are various ways of earning Avios points from UK credit cards. Many cards also have generous sign-up bonuses!

You qualify for the bonus on these cards even if you have a British Airways American Express card:
There are two official British Airways American Express cards with attractive sign-up bonuses:
You can also get generous sign-up bonuses by applying for American Express cards which earn Membership Rewards points.
EDIT: Until 25th October 2022, there is an exceptionally generous sign-up bonus on The Platinum Card. You will receive 60,000 Membership Rewards points – double the usual amount – and £200 to spend at Amex Travel. You need to spend £6,000 within six months to earn the bonus.
Run your own business?
We recommend Capital On Tap for limited companies. You earn 1 Avios per £1 which is impressive for a Visa card, along with a sign-up bonus worth 10,000 Avios.
You should also consider the British Airways Accelerating Business credit card. This is open to sole traders as well as limited companies and has a 30,000 Avios sign-up bonus.
There are also generous bonuses on the two American Express Business cards, with the points converting at 1:1 into Avios. These cards are open to sole traders as well as limited companies.
