Re the premium upgrade on the Virgin credit cards, do you still have to pay the additional tax/fees? ie only save on the additional miles element? Or save on both?

Also, with the 241 companion voucher on the cards, can you fly to one airport and return from another? eg flying from London to Shanghai but return home from Hong Kong to London?

    Thanks

    • Alex W says:

Yes you’ll pay the higher charges. Don’t know about open jaw, sorry.

Re: IHG status match. Is it worth applying for it even if it is just to have the status for the next 90 days? I have a couple of European trips booked and haven’t yet booked the hotels so it would sway me to book IHG for them even if the membership status didn’t last beyond that.

    • Rob says:

Obviously no reason not to, but less impact at a HIX (little scope for upgrade) than at a Crowne Plaza where lounge access and an upgrade are possible.

      • The Original David says:

Always a chance that IHG might forget to downgrade you after 90 days too……

        • Zara says:

Thanks. Have put in a match request. Only reason I could think of not doing it is Incase a future match request is declined when I’m expecting significant stays at ihg properties.

      • BrianN says:

Could be a reason not to if IHG decide you only get one status match for a certain period of time, or possibly only one ever.
