Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Win 5,000 Heathrow Rewards points with ‘Green Points’ – virtually no entries so far

Heathrow Rewards has launched a new promotion to encourage you to reuse your clear plastic liquids bag.

There is a slight snag.  You can only take part if you are reusing an official Heathrow clear plastic liquids bag, which comes with a QR code printed on the front.  This means you need to get rid of your current bag, which is not the environmental message they want to send out.

At Terminal 5 – and ONLY at Terminal 5 – you should scan the QR code on your offical Heathrow liquids bag using your smartphone each time you use it.

Heathrow Rewards

Heathrow is donating 1p to Care International for every scanned bag.  If your bag is scanned three times before 31st March, you will be entered into a competition to win 5,000 Heathrow Rewards points.  These can be converted into 5,000 Avios or other airline miles, or a £50 Heathrow shopping voucher.

As you can see here:

….. the initiative has not taken off so far.  It is very possible that NO-ONE has yet scanned their bag three times.  If you are flying from Terminal 5 on three occasions by 31st March you should be in with a good chance of winning.

You’ll also be helping to boost the donation to Care International beyond the current total of 22p.

You can find full details of the Green Points initiative here (log-in required).

If you’re not a member of the scheme yet, you can find out how Heathrow Rewards works in this article.

What is the cheapest anyone has managed to get tesco pet cover for? think it has to be accident and illness to get the club card points. Has anyone got the cb on top from site that can’t be named? Or does it fail to track. Thanks All

OT, Anyone used Holiday Autos or Opodo for car hire in LA? Prices seem good and i would use my Platinum cc insurance.

    • Newbie A says:

I think I have used them at least twice with no problems, once from yellowstone area to vegas and another time from san fran to LA. They are one of the few website that seems to include all the insurance that we needed and is clearly stated. You are still renting via the major companies and I remember correctly, they have a review rating for each company.

Anyone know where to track SPG points / bonus progression as it’s not coming up in the Amex app where they usually do?

  • TonyG says:

Could it be that any Amex offers just disappear from list?
I have had by M offer gone, although on the card I saved it to, it remains.

I eventually got Euro prices to show up – a bit of trial-and-error – but basically cleared cookies etc, used Safari (don’t usually) and VPN-ed into Spain, then login etc. A bit extreme but it worked. Just in case it helps anyone else.

I’ve tried Safari, Chrome, and Edge, but when I click to go to the “buying” page it takes me back to the Iberia home page.

Anyone else been able to buy any Avios?

  • Shoestring says:

So Raffles can’t be bothered to check in Espana-Espanol to get the cheap Avios price 1p/ point

It has always been necessary to do this to get the cheap price.

About the Heathrow Rewards Green Points promotion, there are a number of challenges:

Find a bag with a QR code
Get Heathrow Rewards to accept the location via your browser

Having just looked at the total green point count, it went up by one since yesterday. Think that’s my entry.

QR code were only at the North side, Fast track. All other points, including First Wing, had the standard bags. (Yes, I some time and was determined)

Next challenge is to get the browser setting right for Heathrow to validate your location.

Eureka, after only 30 minutes fiddling with both my iPhone and my Android phone did I manage to get a green point.

    • Mark Neil says:

As you say, the bags were nowhere to be found yesterday in South or First wing. I’ll try North next week!
Assuming i find a bag, any hints on the browser setting to make it work?
