Has your British Airways Executive Club status been upgraded or extended today?

As promised last week, British Airways has processed (or is at least in the middle of processing) the final batch of status upgrades and extensions today.

British Airways implemented status extensions for the majority of British Airways Executive Club members last week.

However, there were two scenarios under which you wouldn’t have been done before today.

My british airways executive account status has not been extended

If your Executive Club year-end was 8th May or 8th June:

If you have an expiry date of 8th May or 8th June, your status had not yet changed.

There is a reason for this.  If you had an 8th May or 8th June expiry date, your membership card was still valid and ran until 30th June or 31st July respectively.

If your status was due to be upgraded with reduced tier points:

British Airways has applied the new, lower, tier point thresholds today.  As a reminder, these are:

Bronze status – 225 tier points (was 300 points)

Silver status – 450 tier points (was 600 tier points)

Gold status – 1,125 tier points (was 1,500 tier points)

If you qualify by segments flown, these targets have also been reduced by 25%.

If you have reached this number of points, check your British Airways account.  It should have been upgraded.

You should also see that the number of points you need for promotion is reduced.

Hopefully everyone who was due an extension or promotion has now received it.

  • Andy J says:

So. Currently sat at 470 TP’s – TP collection end 8 July. I was Silver previous year and would re qualify based on lower TP requirements. It is my understanding that those lower TP thresholds were only applicable up to June and anyone from July onwards merely has their status extended by one year – is that correct?

I ask as my wife was upgraded to Bronze with lower TP threshold with a June end date. I note that she has now had her status extended until July 2022!

Am I correct in my understanding that this is an anomaly with how extensions are being processed as it seems to me that if my collection end month was June I would have had Silver until July 2022 rather than August 2021? If so, somewhat unfair!

My account is now showing card expiry 31 Aug 2022 and that I require 655 TP’s to acquire Gold. Is this correct insofar as card expiry date as well as TP requirement? Will the TP requirement reset on 8 July meaning I will then have to achieve the lower threshold to retain Silver?

    Cheers

    • Rob says:

Eh? You ARE Silver until August 2022 so it doesn’t matter how many TP you have. You won’t start collecting for renewal until 8th July 2021.

      • Alan says:

‘My account is now showing card expiry 31 Aug 2022’

Suspect that’s a typo and it’s 2021…………or it’s inconsistent with the rules as explained?

        • Rob says:

          It’s not inconsistent.

On 1st June it showed 2021 and it was pushed out by a year, so now 2022. As was my account, as was my wife’s account.

          • Alan says:

But the previous reduced TP thresholds only applied to April, May and June year ends did it not?

So at 470 TPs they would not have been re-qualified for Silver until now and on 1st June card would have been Aug 2020 end date, so extended to 2021 only?

  • Tim says:

Mine has updated to Gold achieved on 1300 tier points.

Still sat on Silver in the app though, but expecting this to update later on

Also 8th sept tier point end date but expiry date is only Oct 2021 and would of expected this to be 2022

  • ee says:

Updated expiry to July 2022 here on my June collection year.

  • Em says:

I am currently gold with 1165 points. My points year ends 8 July 2020.

Last week they extended my year to 2021. I was thinking today it would get changed to 2022 as I’m over the 1125 but so far hasn’t. Should it have changed today.

    • Rob says:

No. Those who renewed their existing status don’t get an extension.

      • Em says:

        Rob

Thanks for your reply. So the email I got on 11 June saying they are giving me a 12 month extension basically means nothing. The last time I flew was back in February so they knew how many points I have and that it wasn’t likely to change. Why send me the email. Glad you understand it all !!!

        • Cathy says:

I renewed silver status this year, tier end date was 8th June with card expiry 31st July 21. Today the card expiry has been changed to July 2022, so maybe the extension will be added.

      • mark says:

yes they do depending on their renewal date – I did…..I earned my renewal in Feb, year end (having requalified in May 2020, was therefore June 2021….and it’s now been moved to June 2022.

  • Lucas says:

Hi there, have you received an email from BA confirming the extension? I retained my Gold status on 08th June with 1600 Tier Points, but I’m a bit confused between the “Tier Point Collection Year Ends” and the “Card Expiry Date”… the TP shows 2021 and the Expiry 2022, does this means I got the extension? Shouldn’t the TP show 2022? Thanks!

    • Rob says:

No. Your tier point collecting period never changes. Your next one ends in 2021 as usual. However, it doesn’t matter how many you earn because your card has been extended to 2022 anyway!

      • Lucas says:

Hi Rob, thanks! Ahh, got it, so the expiry date is the one that states/confirms the extension! This means from July 2020 to June 2021, it doesn’t matter how many tiers I collect. However, from July 2021 to June 2022, I’ll have to collect at least 1,125 tier points in order to retain Gold until 2023, right?

  • Oliver says:

480 TP this year and still showing as Bronze (8 July membership year). Hopefully just a matter of waiting a few more hours.

    • Rob says:

Have you done 4 cash BA flights this year?

      • Oliver says:

Thanks Rob – yes, I have done 6 or 7 cash flights with BA this year.

I see now that it says “You have achieved Silver membership” under “Progress to the next tier” on my BAEC home page. Everything else still says Bronze, but I’m sure it will catch up eventually!

  • Richard G says:

Still showing end of June 2020, I assume because I’m due a downgrade to silver.

  • Craig says:

Nothing for me, don’t think I qualify. Bronze, collection date ended 8 May, 0TP this year, expires end of June and I’m expecting to drop to Blue.
