Don’t be taken in by BA’s incorrect On Business email this week

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

On Business is the British Airways loyalty scheme for small businesses.

Having been offline for 18 months after bad things happened, it came back to life a few weeks ago. This HfP article tells you more about what is going on.

Members will have received a statement this week showing their latest balance. It contains a serious error.

Take a look at my statement:

British Airways On Business statement

It’s good news. I don’t have any points expiring at the end of 2024, which is a good job as the online booking platform only just came back to life after 18 months.

Except ….. this is nonsense.

When I log in to the On Business website, I see the true situation:

British Airways On Business statement

Yes, virtually all of my points are going to expire in five months at the end of December 2024.

The email I was sent by On Business is a load of rubbish.

Luckily I knew this, which is why I was able to write this article. But how many On Business members, having enduring 18 months of disruption, are now going to be hit with the ‘surprise’ expiry of most of their points in a few months?

  • Isherwood says:

The SME I work for gave up bothering with On Business a few years ago (when it went off-line). We are left with a historic balance of 800-odd – and as things stand they’re heading for the bin. After such a drawn out debacle, we would happily donate them to a good cause if BA gave us that option. It’s finding a receptive ear at BA which is the challenge.

  • Mark says:

And if they cancelled them and you’d kept the email you’d have a good reason to get them all back

    • Ironside says:

True. Not that this would result in you actually getting them back.

An apparent software glitch caused 300k Avios to expire prematurely from a family member. BAEC simply ignored all requests for resolution.

His busuiness now spends ~$20k on flights annually “with anyone except BA”. Idiots.

      • meta says:

It would have been a perfect opportunity to test the validity of BAEC/On Business terms and conditions in court. Shame they didn’t pursue it.

  • Chris W says:

What business owner has the time or patience for this ridiculous program

    • Lee says:

Exactly this! We’ve basically given up and now mostly fly Star for business – that’s about £50k a year. Not a huge loss for BA but businesses with this size of spend are what the programme is for as it’s an SME programme. How many more like us now just look elsewhere?

  • Paul says:

Can you add on business number to an upcoming BA booking? If not done when booked.

    • Graham Barker says:

You can, but you won’t get any OB points for a BA Holiday.

      • Paul says:

How do I add the number, I have some flights booked already, but can’t find anywhere to add it OB number

        • Nick says:

Although I haven’t got a booking to check this right now, it was always possible through ‘Manage My Booking’, where it had a specific link to add it.

          • Paul says:

I can’t find anywhere to add it, manage my booking takes you back to the main BA page to manage the booking

          • Rob says:

The BA site removes that link once a number is in the booking.

Use Finnair’s site. This can amend any oneworld booking which sits in Amadeus.

  • PH says:

That sinking feeling when you roll out your email campaign, sit back and wait for the conversions roll in… but instead get a Google Alert and it’s Rob publicly exposing your work as “a load of rubbish” 😀

    • Paul says:

Hi Rob. I can’t see anywhere on finair to add the on business number either!

      • Rob says:

If you want to add an OB number to a BA flight it has to be done at ba.com. Unsurprisingly its not a standard Amadeus field that Finnair would support.

        • Paul says:

But I have tried that and there is no where to add the OB number

          • Rob says:

It may say ‘Add Business Extra Number’ for some weird reason, which is the AA SME scheme. This is in the black menu bar which hovers at the bottom of the screen in Manage My Booking.

  • Robin says:

BA Onbusiness – redemption for tickets online has been broken for several weeks. So useless ….
This page isn’t working at the moment

    HTTP ERROR 413

    • Rob says:

Were you getting that too? I had it last week but gave up as we heading off on holiday – I assumed it was a quick fix but clearly not.
