You can choose seats as long as you have the status that allows it at the time you go to manage your booking and choose the seats, it’s neither at the time of booking nor flying that matters.

Your seat choices will stick for as long as there’s no change to the aircraft, flight times etc so best to check them the day before your status runs out and then hope nothing else changes.

I don’t know if RJ has soft landing but if you drop to Ruby then you could always choose at T-7 days too.

I keep getting this error when trying to pull my my BA bookings on the Finnair website:

“An error occurred when retrieving your booking. Please make sure to enter the correct family name and booking reference or e-ticket number associated with your booking and try again.”

Anyone have this and find a way around?

Should state that all my bookings are reward flights so if people have been able to log into reward flights via Finnair that would be great to know!

It was fine for me yesterday morning but failing in the evening and today. My changes haven’t carried over to BA either.

Question here – I got Gold Sparrow confirmed via the HFP tip off. I’m Bronze BA currently, with a longhaul trip coming up in December.

Prior to the RJ deal I was trying to crawl my way to Silver on BA. Now that I have Gold Sparrow, would I be better off putting all points earned from my One World flights in the next 12 months onto the RJ account, to try and retain Gold Sparrow, even though none of the flights will actually be run by RJ? For example, do I get less points by collecting RJ points on a BA (or other One World) operated flight??

Also getting the same error. Qatar website also doesn’t work to retrieve the booking.

I’m flying BA economy, bronze status. Got Gold Sparrow through the recent promo. How do I exercise my access to priority security please – will it be on my boarding card or do I need to flash my gold sparrow membership card somewhere?

You will need to add your RJ number onto your booking. When you go to check in, use the priority line and it will show up on their system. If you then want to earn BA Avios/TPs, ask the check in agent to change it there and then to your BA number. The priority should work when you scan the boarding pass at the barrier.

It depends if you want Avios. You obviously won’t get Avios by crediting to RJ, and their award booking system is EVEN WORSE than BA’s. You need something like 46 segments (flights) on RJ to keep Gold Sparrow in 12 months, which is obviously a lot more than BA requires for Silver.

So I rather stupidly expected to have time to follow these steps at the airport in Málaga. The CE queue was so slow, security even worse, and passport control meant that it took us 2 hours before we could actually run to the gate. That was after arriving two hours ahead of flight.

Anyway, had seat choices done via the Finnair route a few days back so was happy
However as was in such a rush only now just trying to change back to BA number so I can get the TPs, but Finnair comes up with error and BA shows read only when I click on “add details” link.

Is there any chance of me getting these TPs, maybe retrospectively, rather than RJs? Currently sat on plane which is still held up.

@elguiri – I’m sorry this has happened to you. We are going to see a lot of this as I predicted on here at the time.

Once you are marked as ‘boarded’ any change to your FF number is likely to be ineffective as boarding is the trigger. You can obviously try changing it as soon as you are able but if that fails, there is a process to unwind the award of TPs/Avios. You need to ask the awarding airline to renounce your claim, remove them from you and erase your eligibility. No idea how co-operative RJ will be in this regard. If successful, you need to allow a little time for the system to ‘cleanse’ before making a retro claim to BA.

I don’t think RJ really understands the total mess this daft idea will create. One can also foresee OW airlines now limiting reciprocal MMB. In an ideal world you need to ask RJ or BA to enter both numbers in your booking for their respective purposes but many won’t know how to do this.

Interesting that the Finnair MMB is throwing errors, I wonder what ‘discussions’ are going on in the background?

People were warned in the comments on the original article that this would happen.

You can ask RJ to reverse the credit to your RJ account and if they do that then you can retro claim the points via BA.

BUT RJ aren’t obligated to do that. And if they decide not to there is nothing you can do to make them.

@strickers – I’m taking it that you will having golden sparrows woven into your stripes.

    strickers 894 posts

@JDB I think it safer to fly under the radar with regards golden sparrow right now.

    That’s not right – it’s 26 segments to maintain.

Its unlikely I’ll do 13 return flights in the year but not impossible. And my Avios earning on basic short haul fares is so low I’m not bothered about that so I will likely just leave the RJ number in all my bookings.

(Oops this was an attempt reply to warrior 01 that didn’t go well…)

Given they’re also One World, should there be no issues on adding the RJ FFN to an American or Alaska Airlines booking and obtaining the same benefits?

    Rui N. 910 posts

Indeed. You can even get lounge access on domestic flights on AA with this status, which you don’t get if you have AA’s own equivalent status!

Another question, are there any routes to get from RJ Gold Sparrow to Virgin Atlantic via a status match?

My RJ app says 46 segments are needed to retain Golden Sparrow

My RJ finally worked for logging in, said I also had no email address associated so was prompted to add it. It then says achieve 46 segments to achieve platinum (or 64500 miles).

    TGLoyalty 1,009 posts

-To maintain your Gold Sparrow tier, all you need is to earn 30,000 tier miles or 26 segments over 12 months.
-To qualify to Platinum HAWK, all you need is to earn 65,000 tier miles or 46 segments over 12 months.
