This is part of our occasional series where we remind you of some of the hotel reviews we’ve run in recent years.

We started off in February with all of the great hotels that were reader-reviewed during the pandemic as part of our ‘My Favourite Hotel’ series. The article was very popular and helped a lot of readers to discover content that they never knew we had.

We followed up with an article looking at the 37 London hotels we have reviewed since 2019.

Today I want to bring together our London airport hotel reviews.

Where to find these articles in the future

If you are reading this by email, you should know that there is a ‘Reviews’ tab in the menu bar of our desktop and mobile sites.

Under this tab you will find six categories:

Our London airport hotel reviews

This is far from a comprehensive list. We don’t pretend otherwise. However, we DO try to get to new and refurbished hotels when they open and the ones below are among the best of the bunch.

(There has been very little in terms of new or refurbished hotels at London’s airports over the last 18 months. The last new opening was, I think, the Courtyard at Heathrow in early 2022.)

If there is a particularly good hotel at Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton or London City which is not covered here, let us know in the comments and we’ll try to make it along.

For each hotel we have indicated which loyalty scheme it belongs to and whether it is walkable from, or even in, the terminal.

If you want to know which hotel loyalty scheme is currently running the most generous bonus points promotion, look at our list here.

Hotel shuttle buses are banned at London Heathrow. The only way to reach hotels outside the terminal complex is via the Hotel Hoppa bus or public buses. A couple are easily walkable from Hatton Cross, the first underground station beyond the airport. The Thistle can be accessed by taking the driverless pods from Terminal 5.

Not an airport, but I would think St Pancras deserves a spot in the list.

I’ve only stayed at the Premier Inn Hub on York way (decent, for what it is, in an area beset by dodgy-looking B&Bs). But there’s also the Great Northern, the Renaissance, and a swathe of other Premier Inns.

Not a criticism but I don’t see the point in the hotel articles, are they for those flying ex-London who live far away?

I’m an hour away from Heathrow (NE London), but even for an early morning flight with two young kids I’d still rather take taxi than pay the extortionate cost of airport hotel.

Are they for those flying ex-London who live far away?

Er, yes! That’s why they build hotels close to airports!!

    • HertsSam says:

I live in South Hertfordshire (but north of the M25) and I would prefer to go to the airport the day before.
Reasons if you get stuck in the aftermath of an accident on the M25, you can be there for hours and miss your flight. Whilst the taxi drivers can use a sat nav to navigate through London if there is a problem on the M25 they are not keen and won’t be as good as a local taxi driver who knows London like the back of their hand.
Finally if you go the day before you can shut up your house in a leisurely fashion instead of a frantic rush during the early morning of your flight.

Very useful for overnight connections too, our preference is now to fly Edinburgh to Heathrow the evening before a westbound long haul. Reduces the risk of delays, avoids a very early start and super long day and helps manage the jetlag. Bags are checked through we’re effectively HBO.

Coastwise it’s not “extortionate” unless you’re only looking at the Sofitel as an option. You can usually get a night in one of the Bath Road hotels for £100 or so and the local TfL bus is v. cheap.
