10k Avios offered for £3k spend in three months. Around five months from renewal

What are you guys saying to trigger the retention offer? I’ve called AMEX twice enquiring about my options as I’m interested in cancelling the card – giving the reason companion voucher is too hard to use. First time not offered anything, second time got to the point of just asking if they had any offers and was told no! Renewal date is end of May, next month.

if you’ve asked specifically to talk to retentions and they say there’s no offer showing on your account, there may be one shortly after your payment is due (no guarantee) and if so it’s likely to be around 10k for £3k spend. So if you’re genuinely thinking about cancelling, the retention bonus for the BAPP is among the lowest and not worth sticking around for.

My wife cancelled last week, as we didn’t think we could do £30k in a year between the two of us. She was offered 5k for £3k.

My apologies. I was offered 10k for a 3k spend, apparently that’s the maximum they can offer? First time I’ve asked since having the card for 5 years and spending generously

I was originally offered 10k Avios for £3k spend in 3 months. I declined and tried again today after getting the official notification of changes, I was offered the same again but after declining and explaining I was considering cancelling and moving spend to my Barclaycard they offered an additional 2k Avios credited immediately on top of the 10k/£3k. Which I took.

Hmmm I’ve learned something new. I’m coming up to my renewal and was offered 10k Avios for £3k spend in 3 months which I accepted. How ever they said they can’t apply the retention offer as I accepted one 10 months ago.

Didn’t know you can only accept a retention offer once in a 12 month period. A little annoying as why tell me their system is offering me 10k Avios for 3k spend if it won’t let them apply it 🙁

I think what the agent means is that 10k Avios for £3k spend is the standard offer, but you aren’t eligible. It seems rather over optimistic to expect a retention for this card more than annually or indeed at all. It doesn’t seem a great hardship to wait another couple of months unless you are wanting to cancel.

I believe the retention offers are computer generated as they physically need to look at the retention offers available for said account on the CRM system.

I’m happy to wait the extra 2 months as no plans on leaving (I want my next 2-4-1 voucher hehe). The thing I didn’t understand was why their system shows a retention offer against my account when it can’t even be applied. Finger’s crossed it’s still there in 2 months time 🙂

I got offered 5k avios for £1k spend which I accepted. Asked again about a month later and received the same offer which I accepted again.

Plan is to chance my luck again once the avios is in my account. Infinite money glitch?

My wife has a BAPP with a feeble credit limit. Having earned the 60K SUB, phoned to cancel stating credit limit too low.

Was offered (and accepted) 5K points for £1K spend in next 3 months.

And did they increase her credit limit at the same time?

I don’t think so, (they didn’t say they would) but I haven’t been on and checked. I’m not that bothered really as I have one as well with a decent limit, so would be happy to can hers.

I’m not sure if it’s a sign of madness quoting yourself!

Mrs AFKAE has now earned and received her companion voucher, so I contacted chat to cancel. Nothing offered cancellation went ahead. Annual fee was coming up in September.

Hi everyone, does the spend required by retention offers include supplementary cardholders?

If I were to accept a retention offer (say 10k points for £3k spend in 3m, or 5k/£1k/3m), and then still downgrade/cancel the card after this retention offer is complete/applied, do the extra points remain?

I have a BAPP coming up for renewal in a month, I definitely want to downgrade to the free BA Amex, but £3k spend in 3m is quite doable (especially if it includes my supplementary cardholder) so ideally I’d hit £3k/10k and then cancel straight afterwards for a pro-rata refund of the fee.

    Thanks

Usually all card soend is included not just the primary card

IF you cancel after getting the MR you will not lose the points. Cancel after they transfer to your BAEC. thx

Offered £50 statement credit for £15k spend in the next 6 months.

Have been a customer for 23+ years and have never asked for a retention deal before.

I wasn’t impressed, tbh. How far is it safe to go down the process of cancelling before making the decision to stay or downgrade to blue (which is no use to me tbh – can’t/won’t fly economy for medical reasons).

My membership fee is due in a couple of weeks. I delayed triggering my 241 until last week. Collection year starts again in Feb.

Likewise, £50 for £15k spend in 6 months. I asked for an Avios retention offer, but they had no other offers available on my account.
