This is part of our occasional series where we remind you of some of the hotel reviews we’ve run in recent years.

We started off with all of the great hotels that were reader-reviewed during the pandemic as part of our ‘My Favourite Hotel’ series. The article was very popular and helped a lot of readers to discover content that they never knew we had.

We followed up with an article looking at the 26 London hotels we have reviewed since 2019.

Today I want to bring together our London airport hotel reviews.

Where to find these articles in the future

If you are reading this by email, you should know that there is a ‘Reviews’ tab in the menu bar of our desktop and mobile sites.

Under this tab you will find six categories:

Our London airport hotel reviews

This is far from a comprehensive list. We don’t pretend otherwise. However, we DO try to get to new and refurbished hotels when they open and the ones below are among the best of the bunch.

If there is a particularly good hotel at Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton or London City which is not covered here, let us know in the comments and we’ll try to make it along.

For each hotel we have indicated which loyalty scheme it belongs to and whether it is walkable from, or even in, the terminal.

If you want to know which hotel loyalty scheme is currently running the most generous bonus points promotion, look at our list here.

A couple are easily walkable from Hatton Cross, the first underground station beyond the airport. The Thistle can be accessed by taking the driverless pods from Terminal 5.

Some recent experiences of airport Hotels not on your list. Courtyard at Heathrow, fairly new hotel with rooftop restaurant and views, combination of new hotel, good price point and decent park and fly deals. Marriott at Heathrow has a nice executive lounge with a good offering and is one of the only heathrow hotel left with a pool. Renaissance heathrow whilst more dated is very good price point, has an executive lounge and good park and fly options or easy public bus links to terminals. Aloft at London Excel for LCY, closer than the moxy, good status recognition, easy walk from DLR prince regent, has a swimming pool and full service restaurant (is actually a good london hotel for a week with the elizabeth station at custom house)

    • Rob says:

Courtyard – oops, something went wrong. That should be on the list. Now added.

We HAVE reviewed Aloft but I didn’t treat it as an ‘airport’ hotel so didn’t add it on – admittedly I did add Moxy so you can debate whether I should.

Renaissance is weirdly cheap these days – same price at Courtyard opposite despite being full service. Of course, Courtyard is brand new and may be winning over some Renaissance regulars. I should give this a go, especially whilst the double elite nights promo is running.

  • Mutley says:

HIlton Garden Inn at Hatton cross for me. Good rates, £15 per day parking, 5 minute walk to the tube to access all terminals, nice rooms, interconnecting for families, some runway views, cracking breakfast….what’s not to like.

    • Tom says:

That 5 minute walk is nasty though, crazy traffic.

      • John says:

You’re going the wrong way then

        • Tom says:

Any which way you have to cross the traffic sewer. There is a ped bridge but not with heavy bags obvs.

  • Baggins Surrey says:

I believe that the Hilton Gatwick South has been completely refurbished since the review. I know the roof has been done because a friend had the £2m contract. I’ve recently booked a room for May and it’s still shower over bath unless you book an executive room.

  • executiveclubber says:

Premier Inn Plus room is fine with us. Cheapest & good night guarantee. We skip breakfast and head straight for the lounge of course…

  • Chris W says:

So the best LHR airport on this list would be Sofitel T5, and the worst would be… ?

    • Rob says:

We deliberately avoid the bad ones, so by a LONG way the worst is Thistle T5, which we only reviewed because we wanted to show how you can use the pods to get to/from.

    • Richie says:

There’s an Ibis Budget that gets bad reviews.

      • Blair Waldorf Salad says:

I stayed there once when i wasn’t chasing nights in IHG, Hilton or Marriott and went for cheapest option. I soon realised that my sensibilities do not match with a £35/night Ibis Budget. I’d never go back. I recall having to sit on the bed and lean down to my case to access it as there wasn’t room for both me and the case on the floor.

        • Lady London says:

I had that expeeience with the IBIS Budget in Hamburg! Thought I could tough it out for the night as everything OK about it except it was an IBIS Budget so I thought I’d give it a go.

Rapidly found out as you did, @Blair Waldorf Salad, that I’d underestimated my sensibilities…

Though they were selling one of the IBIS memberships at a lower advertised rate than generslly, so I did sign up when I checked out.

  • HampshireHog says:

The two on-site Premier inns at Gatwick are a good option

  • Alex says:

Just to let you know, the link for courtyard Gatwick leads to Hampton Hilton Stansted
